MitraClip Mitral Valve Repair Without Open Heart Surgery, Ahmedabad
Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair for Mitral Regurgitation: No
Sternotomy, Faster Recovery
The mitral valve sits between the
two chambers on the left side of the heart. Every time the heart beats, it must
close tightly to prevent blood from flowing backwards. When it does not close
properly, a condition called mitral regurgitation allows blood to leak back with each
beat, making the heart work harder and gradually weakening it. MitraClip offers
a less invasive alternative to surgery for patients who cannot have or wish to
avoid open-heart surgery.

MitraClip,
MyCLIP, and 'transcatheter mitral valve repair' all refer to the same
procedure. You may see any of these terms used. |
What Is Mitral Regurgitation?
Mitral regurgitation means the
mitral valve is leaking. Instead of sealing tightly with each heartbeat, the
two leaflets fail to meet properly, allowing blood to flow backwards. Symptoms
include breathlessness (often first noticed climbing stairs), fatigue, and
reduced exercise tolerance.
What Is the MitraClip Procedure?
MitraClip works by placing a small
clip on the two leaflets of the mitral valve, clipping them together at their
centre. This reduces the amount of blood flowing backwards significantly.
The device is delivered through a
catheter inserted into the vein in the groin. No opening of the chest. The
procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes 2–3 hours.
Most patients are home within two to three days.
